Ashtanga Yoga is a modern translation of classical Indian yoga by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. This progressive series of postures links pranayama (breath) to asana (movement) to create a clear mind, and light and energetic body and spirit. Vinyasas connect the postures and feed the body’s internal flame; this allows for sweating and detoxification. Ashtanga yoga is quite active and may be better suited for advanced practitioners, though all are welcome.
